Lawyer
Valerie Goyvaerts obtained a Master of Laws degree from the KU Leuven in 2013. She also holds a Master in criminological sciences (KU Leuven, 2015) and a Master in social law (VUB, 2021). During her master’s degree in law, she also studied for a year at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG).
From 2015 to 2019, Valerie was a lawyer at the Bar Association of Limburg, handling cases in criminal and criminal procedure law. Afterwards, she worked amongst other positions as a scientific researcher at the Leuven Institute of Criminology (KU Leuven).
In 2021 she resumed her activities as a lawyer at the Bar Association of Antwerp and joined Omega Law.
Valerie specialises in criminal law and criminal procedural law with a focus on all aspects of corporate criminal law (financial, social and environmental criminal law). She also holds the certificate ‘Special training in Supreme Court Procedure in Criminal Cases’ and ‘Permanent training Customs and Excise-duties’.
In addition, Valerie has also gained experience in environmental law in the broad sense and is thus also familiar with conducting proceedings before the Council of State and the Council for Permit Disputes.
Valerie also handles cassation proceedings relating to judgments that fall within her areas of expertise.
In September 2023 Valerie was appointed part-time assistant in criminal law and procedure at the KU Leuven.
